Dhāraṇā 2.3: The Season of Stream and Action

With version 2.3, we are renaming Flow to Stream. But it’s not just a linguistic change. It’s a philosophical one.

When we built 2.2, we already knew that we don’t want just another place to list tasks, decisions, and ideas. Our intention was to help users reduce noise, not add to it. But we were struggling to find a space where reflection on reducing the noise could be added in the system. We realiased that as long as users could complete tasks within Flow itself, there was no space left for reflection.

Everything (awareness, processing, and execution) got mixed in one bundle, and we started losing the depth we were trying to build.

That’s when we realized we needed to separate reflection from action. And once that clarity emerged, we knew we also needed a new vocabulary: a word that better captured what this space truly is.

That’s how Stream was born.

Stream: The Conscious Citta System

The word Stream fits both practically and metaphorically. It reflects the real-time state of the user’s being, across all seven dimensions of awareness that flow from their journals: tasks, decisions, ideas, relationships, states, learnings, and clearings.

A stream can be clear or muddy, calm or turbulent. It mirrors the quality of consciousness from which our actions arise.

And that’s exactly what Dhāraṇā wants to make visible: not just what we have to do, but the state from which we are doing it.

In an ideal world, actions should come out of a clear and calm stream. Which means, the tools that help users clear, calm, and process their inner noise belong here, in Stream.

This release 2.3 introduces only the preliminary processing for tasks, letting users assign due dates or plan them for a day, week, or month. We haven’t yet touched decisions and ideas. Those will evolve next.

But even this small step (helping users process their tasks through time) marks the beginning of conscious order.

Stream → Action

Once the tasks in Stream is clarified, movement begins with Action — our new space.

Action has two subspaces: Planning and Focus.

In Planning, users can consciously organize their days, weeks, and months. Tasks planned in Stream automatically appear here, grouped by their time frame. It’s a simple but elegant structure, allowing you to see your intentions laid out in time.

In Focus, users engage only with what truly matters today. We have deliberately avoided using infinite scrolls here. Because infinite scrolls unconsciously pull everything into view, creating overwhelm instead of clarity.

Dhāraṇā is designed differently. You see only what’s meant for this day. If you want to look ahead, to your week or month, you must do so consciously.

That one design choice changes everything. It brings awareness back to the center of productivity.

In the coming 2.4 release, we’ll take this further, by introducing six diagnostic tools to help users clear their mental noise before taking action. Because clarity isn’t automatic; it must be cultivated.

A Clear Calm Stream

For us as builders, this release feels like finding the right language for something we’ve been intuitively sensing since the beginning. A place for processing thoughts and emotions, and another for acting consciously.

It’s a small but important step: the beginning of a clean and calm stream, from which all meaningful action can arise. Try it out and share with me how you like this feature.
